EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT AT ROYAL DARWIN HOSPITAL IS AN EMERGENCY

WHAT A TERRIBLE, SAD AND ALARMING INDICTMENT

Attached is an item in the NT News from Monday, February 5, 2024.

The Emergency Department at Royal Darwin Hospital is a place where those presenting are often traumatised by the behaviour of a selection of patients.

My periodic visits to the ED of RDH helped me understand why the ‘bolting down’ action is being taken.

I have read an account written by a person who was in the ED of RDH for an emergency issue just this weekend past. The history of the experience is such that it makes one’s blood curdle.

The group who are 95% of the issue cannot be identified because any identification would be racist. Suffice it to say the behaviours and the disturbance they create are allowed, and no standard of conduct is required or enforced.

The legal limitations on security guards mean they are more about dressage than meaningful countering action.

It is also true that ED staff, both administrative and medical, bend over backwards to treat this group in an understanding and supplicatory manner.

At the ED of RDH, chaos reigns

What an awful story about system failure.
