Poor Old Henry confronts age

  • Today we voted in the pre-poll for the election on May 3
  • There were so many cars and so many people and such awfully long queues, that I wondered if we were at the Royal Easter Show in Sydney.
  • There was a festoon of tents and a barrage of posters and voting recommendations.
  • We eventually got to vote and left.
  • As we departed I was hit by the realisation that as a man who has passed through his 79th birthday milestone, that this might indeed be my last trip to the voting booth to participate in a federal election.
  • I drove away slowly and had one last, long look at the pre-polling centre, with the full realisation this could be the last time before the golden slip rails intervene.
