The road is patched.
They fixed it fast,
But how long will.
The patching last?
Fixing the road,
I am amazed,
The patching done
In but four days.
Job is done,
Hip, hip horray,
Thanks for the tip off,
Henry Gray.
The patch looks good,
But sad to say,
Not for long,
Will it be that way.
Putting ‘good’
On a base that’s bad,
Just helps to make,
This old man sad.
The patching’s good,
Safe and secure,
But of longevity …
I am unsure.
Soaked with water,
Surface cracked and crazed,
Patch won’t hold,
For many days.
Soon those crazed cracks
Will open wide,
Incessant rain,
They can’t abide.
The rot won’t stop,
Or breakdown pause
Surface subsides,
From weight of cars.
Soon t’will be potholes,
Or maybe ten,
The fix-up then,
Will start again.
Breakdown, repair,
Holes come in batches,
Till the roads,
Are nothing but patches.
Our roads once good,
Scoured by road hogs,
These vital links,
Have gone to the dogs.
