The call to jail those who bash police should extend to include those who physically deal with paramedics, nurses, teachers, bus and taxi drivers.

People providing essential services have a right to feel safe and confident in their occupations.

There is a lot of worry among those serving our community that they might be physically dealt with and abused. Protections are needed for those who are occupationally vulnerable.

And it is time that courts actioned the law in terms of the penalties available. Mitigating circumstances and excuses for offenders should be disallowed and not discounted by the judiciary.
