One of the really awful things for carers is that they can’t do more to ease the discomfort and the suffering of people for whom they’re caring. At the end of the day, it’s something that comes from within the person who’s suffering. And you just have no control as a carer over the physiological and the psychological things that drive their feelings of discomfort and unwellness. I think it would be the wish of every carer that they could do more to take away that suffering from others. But that’s just an impossibility. So we can offer care and empathy and support and sympathy and understanding. But that doesn’t alleviate the painful consequences of the suffering you feel. And that’s awful.
