Senator McMahon suggests that modern and up to date facilities enhance teaching and learning (NT News 5/11). Facilities help but but not as much as unencumbering teachers from massive overloads of accountability and administrative responsibilities, which take them away from prime time teaching contact with children. Too much learning is by research assignment with teachers increasingly distracted from direct engagement with students.
Government departments and employers confronted by people who will not become vaccinated and who therefore have to be placed in positions of non-contact with others, should not be confronted with such an encumbrance. People refusing vaccination should be dismissed – and that should be the end of it!
The Covid uncertainly happening at the moment in Darwin, Palmerston and nearby locations, is taking place while Year 12’s are sitting final exams. I hope they are able to focus and concentrate on examinations without being distracted by community restrictions and limitations.
